Twelve names, all level on nothing, and not a cent paid yet. What you are looking at is the tie-break, not an opinion: level on money, they sort alphabetically. $1 puts one of them first — and that first place is the cheapest it will ever be.
The opening twelve are the top ten of the 2025 Ballon d'Or (men's award, ceremony 22 September 2025 — the most recent edition), plus Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who were not in that ten. That is the whole criterion and it is the only thing the list means.
